AECOM Principal Engineer Structural/Mechanical in Aiken, South Carolina
United States of America - South Carolina, Aiken
Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking a Principal Engineer – Structural/Mechanical to be based in our Aiken, SC location.
The Principal Engineer Structural/Mechanical supervises a group of 10 -15 engineering professionals performing advanced structural and mechanical analyses in the Design Services organization.
Responsible for advanced structural analyses of various structures to validate their design adequacy for normal operation and accident loading conditions.
Advanced structural analyses include Seismic Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI); dynamic seismic analysis (response spectra and time-history); development of in-structure seismic response spectra, and evaluation of structural responses for tornado winds, missile penetration, precipitation (rain, flood, snow), and explosion (blast/detonation and deflagration).
Responsible for advanced engineering evaluations employing stress analysis, solid and fluid mechanics principles, and heat transfer phenomena to validate the design adequacy of various equipment for normal operation and various accident event conditions.
Applications involve both hand computations and computer software including finite element analyses for linear and non-linear components, pipe stress, fluid flow, and pressure vessel design. SRS component design requires the capability to evaluate component structural responses due to thermal-hydraulic pressure transients, vibration, other live loads, wind loads, and seismic events.
Design evaluation tasks also include the ability to determine pressure relief valve size requirements for fluid systems, and to determine pump size requirements for piping networks.
