Job Summary

The Water Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Mid-Level Surface Water and Utility Engineer for immediate employment in the Albuquerque, NM office. AECOM is searching for enthusiastic candidates that are client focused, impactful, decisive, and have the ability to serve as a role model to others. The successful candidate will provide engineering, modeling, and design support for surface water and utility projects. The position will involve working on projects for the state, local municipalities, federal agencies, and private clients to conduct hydrologic / hydraulic modeling and utility design and coordination.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a project manager or task leader for surface water and utility projects.

  • Assist with client correspondence/coordination

  • Work with a team of water/wastewater professionals to manage technical tasks, complete quality assurance/quality control reviews, and prepare high quality work products for utility projects including water and wastewater line design, and reports, including the application of engineering judgment.

  • Work with a team of surface water professionals to manage technical tasks, complete quality assurance/quality control reviews, and prepare high quality work products for utility projects including storm water management, hydrology and hydraulic design, grading and drainage design, and reports, including the application of engineering judgment.

  • Project Manager overseeing project financial metrics and work performed by multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Delegate work, mentor, and supervise less experienced staff while managing projects of varying size and complexity.

  • Directing and reviewing documentation and calculations, and preparing engineering reports

  • Directing design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections within the applicable software, such as Autodesk-Storm and Sanitary and/or Autodesk Civil 3D, and Flo2D, ArcMap.

  • Assisting with the marketing and proposal efforts for a variety of existing and new public and private clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in surface water or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in surface water and utility design projects

  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of surface water and utility planning and design projects and related technologies

  • Expertise with various hydrology and hydraulic modeling software and plan set production design software (e.g. Microstation, Inroads Storm and Sanitary, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, StormCAD)

  • Expertise with preparing and developing design specifications

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Ownership and accountability for quality deliverables

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) with plans of obtaining Professional Engineer within 1 year of hire

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Engineer (in New Mexico or seeking reciprocity)

  • Business development experience including client relations and proposal preparation

  • Good understanding of local and regional markets and able to support marketing effort in pursuing work for water and transportation projects

  • Experience with observation and oversight of construction activities as it relates to surface water and utility projects.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate the technical aspects of projects to a wide audience
