About AECOM’s Remediation, Restoration and Redevelopment Practice

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist to be based in Annapolis Junction, MD. This position is expected to begin in November 2021. The successful candidate will have at a minimum a BS in Environmental Science, or Geology with a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects.

The candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work may be required including the oversight of subcontractors.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Collect soil, water, and vapor samples using approved sampling plans and industry accepted methods. Document work with detailed field notes.

  • Remediation system operations.

  • Healthy and safety management.

  • Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs.

  • Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections and compliance.

  • Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies and maintaining work area.

  • Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements.

  • Coordination with and oversight from task and project managers, on-site subcontractors, and field staff.

  • Office support including preparation of work plans, health and safety plans, and technical reports.

  • Manage environmental data. Prepare tables and figures to present data.

  • Perform other tasks assigned by project and task managers.

  • Support assessment and remediation at other client facilities under direction of staff as necessary.

Your experience level

  • You have been performing the skills that are listed below for months.

Skills and abilities

  • Field work in locations as appropriate.

  • Comfortable with technology, applications and databases.

  • Solid written and spoken communication skills to execute the above tasks, including using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.

  • Demonstrates an understanding and technical competence in oversight of implementation of remedial actions/construction (i.e. worked around heavy equipment, oversee contractors, installation of recovery well systems).

  • Knowledgeable and experience with state rules and regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Environmental Science or a related field

  • Must possess a Valid US Driver's license
