Job Summary

AECOM has a full-time opening for a communications Assistant that is contingent upon contract award. This position will support the Corporate Communications Team for the Code 103 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division located at Dahlgren, VA. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven ability to support employee communication programs and products, media relations programs, community relations, special events, and provide photography support. This role will be located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division located at Dahlgren, VA on a full time basis.

The duties and responsibilities of this position, include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and implements internal and external communications that include: internet/intranet content, press releases, award submissions, conference/tradeshow material, email messaging, and AECOM enterprise initiatives.

  • Provides communication consultation to internal/external departments.

  • Must have a combination of writing, graphics, organizational/management and people skills.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team; manage multiple assignments; interact effectively with employees at all levels.

  • Exercises sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.

  • Latitude of creativity is required to produce effective and successful communication materials.

  • Works under limited supervision with final work product reviewed to validate consistency with branding requirements and messaging.

  • May provide functional advice and training to less experienced team

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications field, public relations, or marketing

  • 2 years of related experience

  • Six (6) years related experience in the field for public relations, public affairs or journalism will be accepted in lieu of Bachelors Degree

  • Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web based, and hard copy material

  • Proven ability to support employee communication programs and products, media relations programs, community relations, special events, and provide photography support.

  • Previous Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance Preferred
