AECOM Entry Level Transportation Planner in Arlington, Virginia

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Planner to be based in Arlington, VA.

This position is expected to begin in February 2022.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Transportation technical tasks:

  • Collect, organize, review, and analyze social, economic, and physical data obtained through research, modeling tools, geographic information systems or associated databases;

  • Analyze collected data through programs such as Python or R;

  • Communicate complex transportation technical information through data visualizations and via text in clear, engaging and creative ways to a variety of audiences;

  • Write technical memoranda, reports, and presentations in order to communicate complex transportation technical information in clear, engaging and creative ways to a variety of audiences;

  • Perform site studies under supervision of Project Manager or other senior staff;

  • Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation design issues;

  • Develop design ideas for new or improved transport infrastructure, including transit stations and alignments, pedestrian projects, bicycle facilities, complete streets, connected and autonomous vehicles, highways, and parking;

  • Review development plans for transportation system effects, infrastructure requirements, and compliance with applicable transportation regulations;

  • Assist on environmental and NEPA-related projects and tasks, including EIS, EA, and CE documentation with FTA, FRA, and FHWA as lead agencies;

  • Coordinate and participate in public meetings, hearings, and other public outreach events to explain planning proposals, gather feedback from those affected by projects, or achieve consensus on project designs.

  • Task and project management:

  • Assist project managers and task leaders in the management of project technical tasks and project administration, including managing task and project teams, presenting to and working with a range of clients, monitoring project budgets and schedules, developing technical approaches and executing work, assisting with quality control, and coordinating among technical disciplines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in planning, engineering, environmental science, public policy or a related field;

  • Experience in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and ArcGIS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, environmental planning and engineering, civil engineering, or other professionally recognized equivalent discipline;

  • One year of relevant work experience. Internship experience acceptable;

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including developing engaging reports and memoranda for range of client, public stakeholder, and decision-maker audiences;

  • Excellent document delivery skills: report organization and technical editing, development of information graphics, efficient delegation of assignments, and ability to work under multiple deadlines;

  • Task management experience and demonstrated ability to perform qualitative and quantitative technical analyses with limited supervision;

  • Preference for candidates who can use data analysis tools (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB);

  • Experience in stakeholder-driven planning contexts typical of North America
