Job Description

The Urban + Planning group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Project Manager for immediate employment in the Arlington, VA office. The project manager will lead or serve on multi-disciplinary planning projects for mainly military installations and federal agencies. As the lead of the project team, the project manager will develop creative and innovative solutions to address the Federal Government’s issues. The project manager will:

  • Be responsible for all project tasks included in the task order including schedule, data collection and analysis, workshop preparation, meeting facilitation, concept development, report writing and layout, graphics development, etc.

  • Coordinate project resources and staffing and task management

  • Manage client’s communications, expectations, and requests

  • Communicate effectively with the project team and provide clear guidance

  • Ensure quality of reports and documents developed meets guidelines

  • Mentor staff to assist in their professional growth

  • Assist with the preparation of proposals for planning projects

  • Contribute to client relationships and business development efforts

  • Introduce innovative ideas or processes to streamline project efforts

  • Leads, develops, and directs the growth of studio team

  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed planning products.

  • Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility, industry, equipment, or program function

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

  • Oversees specialized planning functions, such as large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies

  • Provides overall management of IE-related planning issues

  • Advises the Planning Director on all planning-related matters

  • Advises various councils, boards, commissions, and elected officials in planning related issues

  • Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS plus six (6) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must have project management skills and experience managing a project team

  • Professional public speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills

  • Professional writing, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Professional experience managing, and working within project and assignment

  • Experience with MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite required

  • AICP certification required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in urban and regional planning or related field is highly preferred

  • LEED certification preferred

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Sketchup Pro is a plus

  • Knowledge of military planning or military experience is a plus, but not required

  • Be a strong technical leader and collaborator

  • Excellent communication skills with clients and project teams

  • Positive outlook and can-do attitude approach to projects and teamwork

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities

  • Efficient and organized project manager with an attention for detail

  • Ability to work independently as well as lead multi-disciplinary teams

  • Flexible to adapt to evolving project requirements and client requests

  • Team building and office management experience preferred
