AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Archaeologist for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Support the multi-discipline environmental group in transportation.
Field work, research, report writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping among other duties
Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports
Compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others
Works with those who collect the data to understand and interpret data into reporting
Prepares reports for internal and external audiences
Prepares basic data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, agency coordination, cultural resource documents, and permit applications
Works under supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision
Bachelor’s degree in relevant environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, cultural resource management, historic resources, archaeological resources, NEPA, urban planning, and/or related disciplines)
5+ Years of relevant experience
Undertaking cultural resources assessments, preparing documentation in support of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, conducting field work for Phase I, II, IIIs, preparing mitigation for archaeological findings, as well as ARPA permits
Conducting field activities independently, within a team, and in remote areas
Providing specialist technical advice on cultural resource management to clients
Liaise and develop positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders
Strong technical/scientific writing skills
Functional knowledge and use of ArcGIS software
Ability to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner
Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), state of GA rules and regulations (including Buffer Variance Regulations), Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act
Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner
Ability to handle multiple tasks and communicate priorities to manager
Ability to learn through on-the-job experience
Ability to learn new concepts and apply them across multiple scenarios
Ability to work well with people from different technical backgrounds
Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
Master’s degree in relevant environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, cultural resources, NEPA, urban planning, water quality, and related disciplines)
Previous environmental consulting experience
Experience with NEPA planning/implementation and public outreach, particularly as it relates to Georgia Department of Transportation is a plus
Willingness to expand professional experience/qualifications beyond current area of expertise
