Job Description
AECOM is seeking a dynamic professional and project manager to serve as the Deputy Project Manager for GDOT’s Safety Program Contract in District 7, which includes the six counties in and surrounding Metro Atlanta (Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Clayton, Rockdale, and Douglas). As such, the contract’s primary focus is not only identifying intersection and corridor hot spots, but also mitigating fatal and serious injury vehicle and vulnerable road user crashes by proposing safety recommendations that can be implemented in the field through various delivery mechanism. This position will be a conduit internally between the project manager and various leads and coordinators within our team (Traffic Engineering Studies, Big Data, GIS, Technology as well as Multi-modal Concept and Signal Designs) with the goal of moving the tasks forward from study to design to implementation.
Performs various responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.
Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.
Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering.or related field
Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.
Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
Supervises group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in civil, construction, electrical or mechanical engineering, planning, or related field and six plus years of related years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
2 years of project management or similar experience
Preferred:
Experience and knowledge in traffic, safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety analysis
Experience and cost estimating in traffic signal, pedestrian hybrid beacon, medians, streetscapes, multi-use paths, dedicated bicycle tracks, roundabout, and innovative design (MUT, RCUTs, DDI, CFI)
Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia or ability to obtain comity in a reasonable amount of time
ITE’s Road Safety Professional Certification, Level 1, or Level 2 – Infrastructure or Behavioral
Experience using the various engineering standards and GDOT guides, including but not limited to the Highway Safety Manual, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, GDOT’s Traffic Signal Design Guide, GDOT’s Roundabout Design Guide, GDOT’s Pedestrian and Streetscape Guide, NATCO, ADA, PROWAG, GDOT’s Design Policy Manual, and GDOT’s Construction Details
Experience and familiarity utilizing the Crash Modification Clearinghouse, AASHTOWare Numetric, GEARS, and GDOT’s Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) workbook
Experience using the following software packages: Synchro/SimTraffic, MicroStation, Synchro, Sidra, HCS+, Excel, Word, Teams
Experience in leading project tasks including people management.
