AECOM EHS Compliance Professional in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an EHS Compliance Professional to be based in our Atlanta office. Responsibilities include but aren't limited to:

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.

  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.

  • Plans and organizes project studies.

  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.

  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.

  • May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.

Successful candidate will provide full time (average of 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday) Environmental Management System support as requested by the client project manager. Required services will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Conducting routine (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) Inspections at Client maintenance facilities – focusing on Spill Prevention, Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention, Waste Management

  • Tracking Inspection Findings, preparing Root Cause Analyses, and developing Corrective Action Plans.

  • Conducting training with client maintenance facility personnel – focusing on spill prevention, industrial stormwater pollution prevention, and waste management

  • Working with the client to track and ensure training is completed among approximately 2,500 employees.

  • Assisting the client and taking the lead in spill response scenarios – both drills and actual spill response events.

  • Reviewing and assisting with updating plans and procedures related to Spill Prevention, Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention, and Waste Management to meet administrative, and regulatory requirements considering changing conditions.

  • Collecting samples, as needed for industrial stormwater or waste characterizations.

  • Assisting the investigation of spill incidents and near misses.

  • Reviewing written procedures and conducting regulatory analysis to support procedure development.

  • Other tasks as assigned by AECOM and/or the Clients Manager of Compliance.

  • It is anticipated that the successful candidate will maintain an office on the client’s premises.

  • Significant travel between client maintenance facilities (all located within Metropolitan Atlanta) is expected.

  • Overnight travel is not anticipated for this position

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency or experience and/or education

  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EHS professional in an operational/maintenance setting.

  • Real hands-on experience responding to oil and hazardous material spills.

  • Experience working with Environmental Management Systems (i.e. ISO 14001).

  • Strong interpersonal / communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Flexibility to adjust routines and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.

  • Punctual and dependable work schedules.

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER, and current on Annual Refresher.

  • Ability to work with AECOM department manager and project managers on deadlines, workload forecasting, and utilization.

  • Experience implementing/working with Behavior Based Safety Systems is a plus.

  • Experience with Risk Management and Mitigation Systems is a plus.

  • Professional Engineer, Certified Professional Environmental Auditor, or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager is a Plus
