Job Description
AECOM is seeking a TMC Operator to be based in Atlanta, GA.
Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operators are responsible for using Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) software to monitor Department roadways and manage events/incidents; dispatching incident management personnel; answering and responding to calls from the public; and communicating, coordinating, and collaborating with other TMC staff, Department personnel, and partner agencies. The routine responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Utilization of the ATMS software to control and monitor various Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices, such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), and ramp meters
Monitor video images for the detection and verification of events such as incidents, debris, abandoned or disable vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills
Use ATMS software to log potential and confirmed incidents, and construction and maintenance lane closures
Monitor ATMS system-generated response plans and accept or manually override them as necessary
Dispatch and communicate with Highway Emergency Response Operators (HERO) incident management personnel via radio or phone using standard protocol
Dispatch HERO units to the locations of road hazards and incidents, providing clear and accurate directions to the location; and an accurate description of the hazard or incident as advised by citizens, public safety entities, or Department personnel, by means of two-way radio communication
Coordinate and collaborate with Regional Traffic Operations Program (RTOP) operators
Communicate with appropriate local agencies, authorities, and wrecker companies in the management and clearance of traffic incidents
Adhere to TM Operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG), and Manuals
Answer phones to provide information or assistance to motorists, Department personnel, or other agencies on traffic and road condition; direct calls to designated personnel in Traffic Operations or take appropriate action
Monitor weather conditions for potential problems affecting traffic; make necessary communication and take appropriate action
Perform record keeping, logging of required information, equipment checks, data gathering, and updating of manuals and contact lists
Update items on the 511ga.org website and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system as directed
Answer all non-duty hour calls for Department statewide maintenance assistance; make the necessary communication and dispatch necessary personnel
Perform all duties with the highest level of customer service meeting or exceeding the prescribed expectations and performance measures
Throughout the year complete one (1) one-week ride along with HERO as a refresher
Use radio, landline phone, and mobile phone to communicate with law enforcement, ambulance, fire department, or towing service to provide clear and accurate information regarding incidents and the response required
Use radio, landline phone, and mobile phone to communicate with Department personnel statewide, including Maintenance and Construction personnel, ATMS technicians, Traffic Operations management, Department management and Federal Highway Administration as appropriate, to provide clear and accurate information regarding incidents, traffic, road, maintenance and construction activity, and related weather conditions
Ensure that all radio communications are in compliance with Department and F.C.C. rules and regulations
Adhere to radio protocol and procedures; and use proper 10-codesContact appropriate supervisory personnel to advise them of inappropriate communications
Use clear communication to complete written records in clear well written English
Compose clear and concise sentences that include all pertinent
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
High School Diploma
Must pass a state and federal criminal history/security background check
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time monitoring Intelligent Transportation Systems such CCTV camera displays, meters, law enforcement radio broadcasts, answering/responding to calls and communicating to other staff or partner agencies.
Constantly operate a computer and other monitoring equipment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads
Have an introductory knowledge of and have the skill set to utilize and operate ATMS software and web-based applications
Have a customer service focused attitude
Effective oral and written communications skills for in-person, radio, and phone conversations
Ability to work calmly and accurately under intense pressure
Flexible schedule (relates to a 24/7/365 operation)
Works under direct supervision
Controlled, indoor environment
Heavy telephone, radio, and computer usage
Fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Experience in Call center, customer service, 911 Operator or dispatching preferred
Data Entry Skills
Knowledge of State Routes and Interstates throughout the State
