The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage multiple divisions within the engineering department, performing various civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, architecture, signals, communications, track, power or other technology design projects, and PMO, IT and CADD departments

  • Review project document quality and ensures that MATC quality standards are adhered too

  • Provides technical guidance and other guidance to the design and support groups and establish or interpret design criteria, code issues, and standards

  • Manages and monitoring work performance of the engineering department including evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, establishes broad departmental goals and realigns work and staffing assignments for the department as necessary

  • Responsible for selecting and /or developing appropriate staff to meet the design and support needs of the various groups in the engineering department

  • Monitors project progress for adherence to budget, scope and schedule conformance

  • Establish and maintain departmental standards

  • Review and approve time charges of direct reports and department procurements

  • Review and procure standards and codes as necessary to support design projects

  • Interface with various levels of the MARTA team to assess client satisfaction and resolve client issues

  • Review and approve work orders and work order estimates for the engineering department

  • Approve and, as necessary, seal project documents

  • Serves as a senior level advisor to the MATC Program Director and Joint Venture Board of Directors

  • Plans and implements goals and objectives for the MATC Engineering Department

  • Administers department policies and procedures relating to engineering activities

  • Prepares and conducts performance evaluations

  • Monitors and attends staff morale activities within the department

  • All other duties as assigned by the MATC Program Director, Joint Venture Board and/or Client

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or higher

  • 10+ years of Engineering experience in project development, design, estimating, scheduling, budgeting and project management with a strong emphasis on transportation and rail transit systems and facilities including experience in a supervisory role

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia or ability to become registered within 6 months

  • Ability to make decisions with the understanding of procedures, professional standards, company policies, and business practices to achieve general results and deadlines

  • Must be flexible and comfortable with dynamic project implementation

  • Ability to set work unit and/or project deadlines

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Ability to establish and maintain adequate budgetary, cost and schedule controls

  • Knowledge of the NEC, NFPA, and/or AREMA, FTA codes

  • Sit and talk or hear; use hands or fingers, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms

  • Walk or stand for up to 6 hours per shift

  • Kneel, squat, stoop or bend to perform tasks

  • Climb ladders onto roof 50 feet + or down manholes as required, and stairs

  • Reach from floor level to overhead

  • Lift and carry equipment or supplies that weigh up to 50 + pounds

  • Ability to drive

  • Walk in and around MARTA properties including construction sites, track and wayside

  • Access elevated locations such as scaffolds, catwalks and roofs

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
