AECOM Business Development Manager in Austin, Texas

Job Summary

AECOM Process Technologies is seeking aBusiness Development Manager to support the marketing, development, and contracting of projects and other business endeavors associated with the Power, Specialty Chemical, and Oil and Gas industries to be based in Austin, Texas.

An ideal candidate can immediately contribute to the development and sale of creative, value-added, and innovative engineering and design opportunities in historical core competencies (e.g., carbon capture, air pollution control, wastewater treatment, solid byproduct management) and emerging business areas (e.g., alternative fuels, long-duration energy storage, etc.). This requires a strong technical background and sound interpersonal and communication skills to both envision and facilitate the adaptation of existing staff knowledge and experience to new clients, new areas, new markets, and occasionally new geographies.

Typical projects are throughout North America, range in value from $50K to $150MM, and encompass all phases of project execution, including engineering, procurement, and construction.

Job Responsibilities

  • Development of business opportunities by networking with clients to establish relationships and sell AECOM services

  • Research, review and assessment of market data, regulatory and business drivers to supplement business development and diversification activities

  • Development and delivery of papers and presentations at key industry conferences in promotion of business offerings

  • Identifying and vetting prospective technologies, intellectual property (IP), and licensing/partnering agreements

  • Development of marketing material to promote offerings and capabilities

  • Interfacing with operations to track and win work (sales funnels, strategic marketing plans)

  • Serving as capture manager with a focus on solution development, competitor analysis, and marshalling of resources to fully respond to the bid requirements with a compelling solution

  • Client/opportunity assessments, the development of win strategies, and working with execution staff to develop scope, milestones, deliverables and pricing

  • Leading proposal development

  • Coordinating price reviews

  • Leading internal risk reviews

  • Leading contract negotiations

  • Ensuring proper handoff of projects to project execution team

  • Maintaining communication with clients to ensure projects are being properly executed and new opportunities are being identified/developed

  • Interfacing with operations management to support strategic planning

  • Providing mentorship to early- and mid-career technical staff

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • Proficient at technical writing and public speaking

  • Strong ability to analyze data

  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team

  • Out of the box thinking and problem solver

  • Ability to coordinate across engineering disciplines

  • Professional engineer

  • Experience with carbon capture, long-duration energy storage and/or alternative fuels
