Job Description

Job Summary

The AECOM Process Technology Office, located in Austin, TX, develops and commercializes pollution control technologies for the power industry and evaluates treatment technologies for industrial wastewater treatment and soil and groundwater remediation. Technology offerings include, but are not limited to, those designed to significantly reduce the emission of pollutants that contribute to acid rain, global warming, and mercury contamination, as well as treatment of emerging contaminants via adsorptive media, biodegradation, or physicochemical processes.

This position is for Level II Chemist to support analytical and process laboratory operations. The successful candidate will report to the Process Chemistry Team Leader in AECOM’s Process and Technology Development (PTD) Department. The PTO Department is composed of chemical engineers and scientists that work in laboratories to perform preliminary evaluations of new technologies and at industrial sites (e.g., power plants, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, industrial water treatment) to demonstrate technologies at pilot- and full-scale. A Chemist in the PD&C Department will conduct a variety of laboratory procedures in support of laboratory and field programs to assess the viability of various environmental technologies under the direct supervision of a technical project lead. The candidate’s major responsibilities will include:

  • Sample control: receiving, storing, and disposing of samples.

  • Preparing reagents and samples.

  • Analyzing samples.

  • Conducting experiments with supervision; and

  • Providing other general laboratory support.

The job will include hands-on work conducted in a laboratory environment with the potential to travel to industrial plant. The candidate will work with a team of chemists and engineers at a variety of experience levels.


Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 2 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Ability to pass MVR check

Preferred Qualifications:

The chemist must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: BS Degree in Chemistry.

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience working in the field of chemistry. Must have experience with field testing and remediation.

  • Skills: Must have basic laboratory skills such as knowledge of and prior use of personal protective equipment, hazardous chemicals, accurate measurement and transfer of liquids and solids, rigorous documentation practices, etc. Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office software applications such as Word and Excel.

  • Other attributes: ability to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be detail-oriented and observant. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be adaptable to changes. Must be willing to travel.
