AECOM Lead Mechanical Engineer in Austin, Texas

Job Summary

AECOM and the Process Technologies Organization (Austin, Texas) are seeking an experienced, licensed Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and analysis of mechanical equipment, piping systems and structural elements in support of projects across Industrial and Power industries. There will be a focus on carbon capture, hydrogen production, energy storage, wastewater treatment, and environmental services. The successful candidate will be accountable for the completion of assignments in accordance with AECOM and client standards while conforming to the specified project scope, budget, and schedule. This includes multi-discipline coordination (including CADD), and the delegation, oversight, and review of work by other Mechanical Engineers.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare drawings and visual aids either as self-created sketches or in collaboration with a CAD Designer / drafting team

  • Perform mechanical design calculations and standard computations including but not limited to pipe sizing, pipe stress, pipe hydraulics, thermal growth, and finite element analysis

  • Prepare Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Prepare technical specifications for mechanical equipment and fabricated components

  • Apply standard practices and techniques, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through series of related detailed steps or process

  • Provide expert judgment / direction on details of work and in making selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard scientific techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out tasks

  • Provide field support (travel required) for vendor surveillance, construction support and equipment start-up

  • Provide supervision on all aspects of project deliverables sufficient to provide professional engineering seal / certification

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Professional Engineering License

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Valid driver’s license is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience working within the Industrial & Power Industries

  • Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record for design packages

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply industry codes and standards

  • Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard engineering software

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising junior staff
