AECOM Construction Area Safety Engineer in Baltimore, Maryland

Job Summary

Job Overview

AECOM is seeking a Construction Area Safety Engineer based in Baltimore, MD.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Under limited supervision, responsible for monitoring contract and subcontractor construction activities, as well as interfacing with their on-site and team safety representatives. Moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with SH&E standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements

  • Maintains current knowledge of construction safety, Project safety, environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with SH&E standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements, including MOSH and OSHA

  • Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in the area of construction safety.

  • Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions.

  • Develops daily construction safety observation reports in assigned areas.

  • Monitor, observe and report on contractor and subcontractor accident and near-miss investigations.

  • Report observed safety violations to contactor and subcontractor safety representatives, as well as the PMC Construction Safety Manager

  • Recommends improvements in processes, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards

  • Observe/attend contractor/subcontractor Tool Box meetings

  • Review job site safety documentation, including any review of Activity Hazard Analyses and/or Team Books completed by construction crews

  • Observe site use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for active tasks

  • Review specific certifications required for tasks such as fall protection, respiratory protection, and confined spaces

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Safety, Engineering, Construction or related field and 4 plus years of construction safety engineering experience

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable conditions including heat, cold, noise, and working in the presence of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; position requires frequent standing/walking, vehicle operation, stair climbing and keyboard/mouse operations; often performing repetitive bending & stooping; occasionally using portable ladders, and lifting less than 25 pounds or less; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, power gripping/squeezing (and tools, levers, etc.), working at heights, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting 25 to 50 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment.
