Job Description

AECOM is seeking a well-qualified Lead Rail Systems Engineer to support transit and rail projects, including the design, implementation, and modification of vehicles, SCADA, train control and signaling systems. This position requires expertise in signal engineering, systems integration, and safety-critical applications for freight and or passenger rail operations. The selected candidate will work with engineering teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure the successful deployment of signaling solutions in compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.

Expectations:

The role involves analyzing, designing, and commissioning Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) Systems which includes Control Center and Vehicle Integration to achieve the client's end objectives of service and passenger comfort. The selected candidate will work with internal design teams and client personnel to develop functional and detailed designs for new and existing signal systems, ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The candidate will also be required to participate in Business Development initiatives including preparing proposals, client meetings and knowledge sharing presentations to demonstrate AECOM's capabilities and expertise in the industry.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field

  • 8 years of experience in rail transit signaling and train control systems or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Knowledge and experience with CBTC Systems, Fixed Block Systems, Grades of Automation (GoA1-4) and Control Center integration

  • Experience in working on proposals and the ability to engage with various internal stakeholders to develop high quality documentation.

  • Experience in presenting proposals and engaging with clients to understand their concerns/pain points and adequately address them in the desired documentation.

  • Experience and familiarity with cab and interlocking signal operation, including their interface with CBTC and Fixed Block Systems.

  • Experience and ability to work with safety-critical transit systems, including the design and validation those systems

  • Proficiency and experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or equivalent design tools

  • Experience in modifying, testing, and commissioning railway signal control software

  • Experience in mentoring and working with junior engineers to help nurture their knowledge base and understanding of transit systems.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline

  • 15 years of experience in transit or freight rail signaling and train control projects

  • Prior experience with onboard train control systems and speed code generation

  • Experience working in a Brownfield environment with Signaling and Train Control upgrades

  • Experience with Control Center workstation requirements definition and upgrade of Control Center supervision systems together with the Signaling and Train Control System upgrade

  • Experience in grade crossing warning systems and their automation

  • Experience with automatic block signaling and interlocking systems

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or INCOSE CSEP/ESEP is a plus

  • Comprehensive understanding of railway CBTC and Fixed Block systems, interlockings, and control logic, and be able to develop, implement, and validate transit systems solutions for complex rail systems.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $140,000.00 - $190,000.00.
