Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Project Manager for role that includes senior project engineer responsibilities to be based in our Baltimore, MD office. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to engage in the Frederick Douglass Tunnel (FDT) Program among other project opportunities available at AECOM to enhance career growth.

AECOM is the delivery partner for Amtrak on the FDT Program that will upgrade a ten-mile section of the Northeast Corridor (NEC), America’s busiest passenger rail line. Located south of Baltimore Penn Station, the new tunnel will replace the existing 150-year-old B&P Tunnel and, once complete, it will deliver a faster, more reliable trip for more than 12 million annual Amtrak and MARC customers in the region.

The delivery partner team is responsible for supporting Amtrak with overseeing the full breadth of the program. The scope of services includes program management, design oversight, construction oversight, commissioning oversight, program controls, and commercial and capacity building. The Program will also include delivery of new roadway and railroad bridges, new rail systems and track, and a new ADA-accessible West Baltimore MARC station.

The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Reviewing Plans and Specifications: Ensuring compliance with codes and regulations; being thoroughly familiar with all pertinent contract documents

  • Project Scheduling: Creating and maintaining project schedules, tracking milestones and deadlines

  • Cost Tracking: Monitoring project costs, including change orders, and preparing financial reports.

  • Documentation: Maintaining project records and preparing progress reports.

  • Coordination: Collaborating with project team members, including architects, engineers, and contractors; facilitating communication between project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving: Addressing and resolving technical issues and design discrepancies.

  • Compliance: Ensuring all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Monitoring Progress: Monitors the contractor’s performance and provides technical advice to the Contracting Official and contractor within the scope of work for a contract; Conducting occasional site visits to monitor project progress and identify issues.

  • Safety Management: Implementing and enforcing safety.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus (6) six years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.

  • 8+ years of experience with transportation projects and disciplines.

  • Experience working on Rail, Transit, or Tunnel construction projects.

  • Knowledge of various phases and functional responsibility of high-speed rail project development and delivery.

  • Knowledge of federal and state contracting laws and regulations.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and managing multi-discipline teams to meet project milestones.

  • Availability to work in the integrated program office in Baltimore, MD as a part of the hybrid work environment.

  • Willingness and ability to learn industry-standard software pertinent to the position.

  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard software for the position (examples include software such as MS Excel, MS Word, Civil 3D/AutoCAD/MicroStation).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information

Adherence to FDT program policies is mandatory.

Relocation is not available for this role.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $160,000.00.
