Job Summary
AECOM is hiring an experienced Safety and Security System Certification Engineer for the Purple Line transit in Baltimore, Maryland. The System Certification Engineer will review and provide oversight of the Project’s safety and security certification submittals in support of the Project’s Safety and Security Certification Program for the Purple Line alignment construction. The System Certification Engineer will assist the PMC Safety & Security Manager and may be delegated the following activities that will be performed on the Purple Line Project.
Responsibilities: Participate in program meetings with MTA, PMC Safety & Security Group, PMC Discipline Leads and other project participants to coordinate input and obtain concurrence for Certifiable Elements and Certifiable Items on the Construction Specification Conformance Checklists (CSCC) with respect to the alignment, including but not limited to the following:
Right of Way
Track
Walls
Guideway
Stations
Operations & Maintenance Facilities
Overhead Contact System (OCS)
Traction Power
Train Control/Signaling
Traffic Management
Grade Crossing Warning
Communications
Fire and Security Systems
Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing (MEP)
Fire Protection, including Emergency Ventilation
Factory Testing
Integration Testing
Emergency Drills
Trial Running
Operations and Maintenance, including procedures
Conduct field safety and security oversight surveys to determine the completion of certifiable items and elements for verification of CSCC completion.
Conduct audits of Concessionaire CSCCs for construction completion verification.
Participate in Safety and Security Certification Committee meetings, design review meetings, project management meetings, FTA and PMOC meetings, and meetings with Concessionaire for various alignment Certifiable Elements and Items as required.
Monitor progress, review, and comment on the Construction Specification Conformance Checklists for the alignment.
Review and provide comments on project management submittals including schedules and submittal list.
Review, and provide comments to the PMC safety and security certification program submittals, including the Safety & Security Verification Tracking Log (SSVTL), Certifiable Elements Lists (CEL), Certifiable Items Lists (CIL), safety and security design criteria, the Design Criteria Conformance Checklists, the Construction Specification Conformance Checklists, Test Program plans and others as submitted during the project.
Review and provide comments on the Safety and Security certification compliance packages to include Design Criteria Conformance, Certifiable Elements, System Integration Testing, Pre-Revenue Operations Readiness, and final project Safety and Security Conformance.
Track the status of Safety and Security Certification Program to include databases regarding CELs/CILs, certification compliance package submittals, and the Safety Test Program; including the status of the Safety-Critical Items List (SCIL).
Review, and provide comments to Test Program Plans, for alignment certifiable elements, and others as submitted during the project.
Minimum Requirements
BS Civil Engineer or related field and 4 plus years of related experience or education
Experience with FTA’s Safety & Security Certification Process on a previous transit project
Experience & knowledge with multiple transit design disciplines, including Light Rail Vehicles, Fire, & Security systems
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 years as a systems certification engineer for rail and/or transit system
