Job Description

AECOM has a position opening for an Electrical Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line vehicle electrification program. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States through our Freedom to Grow program .

Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, etc.). We are looking for a strong engineer with a vehicle electrification and electrical engineering background to promote our skills to new clients as well as maintain our existing client base.

The successful candidate is expected to be a detail orientated, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff. It is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into a project discipline leadership role.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects; capable to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Provide mentorship/guidance to early career engineers within the Energy Center of Excellence and other remote teams

  • When requested, supporting the lead engineer on developing project deliverable lists and budgets

  • Performing Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)

  • Collaborating on electrical infrastructure physical layout

  • One line and three-line diagrams

  • Developing construction and electrical equipment specifications

  • Protective relay and metering one line / three-line diagrams

  • Wiring Diagrams and Schematics

  • Panel Layouts and Schedules

  • Plan Drawings such as grounding plans, lighting plan, raceway plans, cable tray plans etc.

  • Electrical Lists - Cable and Conduit Schedules, Load List, Equipment List

  • Calculations – ampacity, cable sizing, conduit sizing, transformer sizing, Grounding Analysis and Design, underground cable and duct bank

  • Equipment Specifications and Data Sheets

  • Bill of Materials

  • Reviewing engineering work performed by peers

  • Attending client meetings

  • Occasional travel to client and/or project sites

Level specific responsibilities:

  • Gathers and correlates engineering data

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

DCS—Energy

AECOM’s Energy practice provides a wide range of services from consulting and engineering design to energy engineering, energy procurement and construction (EPC) for power, energy efficiency, and renewable energy clients. Our understanding of the big picture – and the interconnection between generation, distribution, storage, and the demand side of the meter – allows us to deliver holistic strategies that improve and modernize next generation energy infrastructure. We connect knowledge and experience across our global framework to bring together a unique combination of engineers, planners, scientists, and project managers who advance cleaner, secure, and more sustainable energy solutions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university

  • 4+ years of relevant electrical and/or vehicle electrification experience

  • EIT Certification with willingness to attain professional engineering license

  • Able to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE licensure

  • 2+ years working on vehicle electrification projects

  • Experience working with remote teams

  • Familiar with industry codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, NESC, IEEE, etc.).

  • Strong familiarity of current building codes and standards

  • Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks

  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.

  • Plant Startup and Commissioning Field Experience

  • Power systems analysis software experience (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)

  • Solar or wind facility experience

  • Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Navisworks) and laser scan data
