Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in Hyperscale Data Centers to act as Data Center Electrical Engineer Lead. The job incumbent will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems in large scale data centers. This position is based in Bogotá, with occasional site visits as needed throughout Latin America.

The Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering and experience working with high-density data centers.

Responsibilities

Preference will be given to those who have Data Center Design and Construction experience.

  • Design and implement electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, including power distribution, backup power systems, and emergency systems.

  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, bills of materials, and installation drawings.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations, including National Electric Code (NEC) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards.

  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to develop specifications, design criteria, and project budgets.

  • Analyze electrical systems to identify and resolve issues, including load balancing, capacity planning, and power consumption optimization.

  • Monitor and maintain the electrical systems, including performing preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs.

  • Develop and implement electrical safety procedures and training programs for technicians and other staff.

  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies, and recommend new technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of our data center infrastructure.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design and/or electrical engineering, with a focus on data center infrastructure.

  • Fluent English and Spanish. Portuguese is a plus

Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical design, power distribution systems, and backup power systems.

  • Experience with high-density data centers and hyperscale environments.

  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including NEC and IEC standards.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with a cross-functional team.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.

  • Ability to think creatively and identify opportunities to enhance the client experience.

  • Experience working with computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Local expert on providing technical leadership in a specialty area, often for a district.

  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs and applications.

  • Interprets, organizes, executes and coordinates assignments.

  • Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.

  • Applies advanced or state-of-the-art knowledge and experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work usually results from progressive experience.

  • Supervision received is essentially administrative, with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
