AECOM Architecture Designer V in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Architectural Designer V to be based in our Boston, MA office. The role of a Designer at AECOM is diverse and encompasses combining creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce sustainably focused, aesthetically powerful, functional, high-performing architectural solutions which align with and support clients' culture and values as well as business strategies and drivers. The Designer will be an integral part of the project team and the studio, working under the general supervision of a Practice Leader and/or Project Manager and in collaboration with peer designers and technical professionals.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong technical resource to serve as technical advisor.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Serves as lead technical representative on mid-to large-size projects.

  • Provides specialized technical input and design efforts.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.

  • Support communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials.

  • Approves and signs off on work.

  • Performs quality control reviews of work designed by others.

  • Participates in the development of technical proposals.

  • Ability to lead and manage a team.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline components for PS&E package.

  • Provides input to the development of budget and schedule to meet requirements.

  • Excellent people management skills.

  • Responsible for providing architectural guidance, calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of the Architectural Discipline within the schedules and budget of an assigned project.

  • May manage various size groups of architects, designers, and/or specialists.

  • May work on mid-size projects and/or assist Project Architectural or Engineering Managers with higher grades.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Architecture or related field plus eight (8) years of related experience and/or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Revit and BIM capable as well as experience particularly with cloud-based multi-phased multipackage delivery.

  • Proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier is desirable.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, InDesign, and software such as Rhino, SketchUp, or other visualization tools.

  • Experience with principles of Lean Design and Construction is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building structures including codes pertinent to transit projects.

  • Affinity with developing details and experience in construction documents.

  • Ability to lead integrated design teams of varying sizes to accomplish project delivery from concept through design of construction document sets, construction document completion and may perform construction administration.

  • Ability to lead design assist for all envelope elements including roofing.

  • Ability to be client facing and lead client discussions and charrettes.
