AECOM Ecologist/Environmental Scientist in Buffalo, New York

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Junior Ecologist / Environmental Scientist with experience performing ecological surveys and wetland delineations, environmental science surveys (water and sediment), knowledge of federal and state permitting, and/or data base management to be based in our Buffalo, NY office.

This position is expected to begin in December, 2021.

About DCSA—Environment

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess strong organization, oral, written, and objective analytical skills.

  • Ability to taxonomically identify flora and fauna common to the Northeastern United States.

  • Willing and able to work long hours in the field, in sometimes inclement weather and difficult terrain.

  • Able to work individually or as member of a team and take the initiative to resolve problems, communicate with others, and create improved procedures to assure tasks are completed in an efficient manner.

  • Able to interact in a professional and respectful manner with client representatives.

  • Familiarity using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook, etc.

  • Strong GIS skills

  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPR Certification
