Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join our Remediation team based in our Buffalo, NY office. We are seeking candidates who wish to establish a career in civil or environmental engineering. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of technical professionals on site civil work and remediation projects.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will join a large established team who provides professional services across New York and New Jersey. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work in the office or field, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team. Note this role may require travel outside of the Buffalo, NY area (from days to weeks) to support projects as needed across the United States.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide reliable, flexible engineering services in the field and office.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

  • Develop knowledge of job-specific federal, state, and local laws and regulations and assigned job specifications.

  • Assist with the preparation of design drawings and specifications, technical reports, and basic design calculations under supervision.

  • Be familiar with the fundamentals of site civil construction work and the means by which basic civil work is constructed.

  • Perform routine fieldwork working under supervision. Field work may include soil, sediment, surface water and/or groundwater sampling, operation and maintenance of remedial systems, remedial construction oversight including subcontractor management, and design site visits.

  • Collect and analyze data under supervision.

  • Provide field sketches and coordinate with GIS and CAD staff to develop figures and drawings.

  • Receive, review, and return contractor documents for engineer’s review (submittals/requests for information (RFIs)/change orders).

  • Prepare cost estimates using existing databases and requesting vendor quotes.

  • Prepare detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project or similar software.

  • Attend meetings and report on project tasks as needed.

  • Utilize computer software to solve basic engineering problems.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Internship experience with engineering consulting firm or government agency.

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.

  • Basic knowledge of other industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, Bluebeam).

  • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (Buffalo, New York locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000.
