Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Geologist III to join our Remediation team based in our Buffalo, NY office. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional consulting services to our key clients. This is a hybrid work model requiring 2-3 days per week in the office. This position also requires some fieldwork within the northeast United States region.

The successful candidate will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects across New York and New Jersey. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.

The successful candidate will assume deputy project manager and team leader roles within the department and will develop strong relationships with the team, and with clients to enable the pursuit of new opportunities. The successful candidate will be committed to the team’s success and growth; will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures; will manage the technical, cost and schedule elements of project delivery; and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.

Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with the NY/NJ Remediation Area Manager and other teams within the Remediation department, and professionals within other AECOM internal business lines

  • Manage a team within the Remediation department and support the NY/NJ Remediation Area Manager to achieve growth objectives

  • Act as Deputy Project Manager on large, complex projects assisting Project Managers with technical delivery, schedule management, fiscal management, reporting requirements, client management, and coordination with project team members

  • Undertake technical work in accordance with the contracted scope of work, budget, schedule and legislative standards

  • Provide field-based task oversight of environmental investigation and remediation programs. Field work may include soil, sediment, surface water and/or groundwater sampling, operation and maintenance of remedial systems, and remedial construction oversight including subcontractor management

  • Coordinate and prepare written reports, work plans, and technical memorandums; analyze data and develop supported conclusions

  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase project efficiencies, improve technical methodologies and add value to client service offerings

  • Assist with development of junior staff through ongoing mentoring

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS plus 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Relevant experience in an environmental engineering consultancy role pertaining to remediation projects

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required

  • Valid US Driver’s License

  • Previous relevant field work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Geology or Environmental Science, preferred

  • 6 years of relevant environmental engineering/remediation experience preferred

  • EQuIS knowledge and experience is helpful

  • Experience as a Team Lead or Deputy Project Manager or technical lead on remedial investigations and feasibility studies, preferred

  • Experience working on projects subject to NYSDEC regulatory oversight and Superfund programs

  • Experience applying NYSDEC DER-10 site investigation and remediation requirements

Additional Information

  • This role requires 30% - 40% fieldwork performed outside, sometimes in extreme heat, or inclement weather, walking on uneven terrain and carrying equipment that may weigh up to 25 lbs

  • This is a hybrid work model requiring 2-3 days per week in the office

Offered rate of compensation, in Buffalo, New York only, will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $92,000.
