Job Summary

JW Williams Inc., an AECOM company, is seeking a talented Safety Specialist to support the Safety, Environmental and Health program for our fabrication facility operations in Casper, Wyoming.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with SH&E standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty.

  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.

  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area.

  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.

  • Develops and manages SH&E programs for the company, business lines, regions, and/or clients.

  • Provides leadership and support to Operations to help the organization achieve SH&E goals and objectives. Assists the business to meet regulatory requirements relating to specific SH&E obligations e.g. trained SH&E professionals in business/projects, officer duties, statutory reporting etc.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company environmental, safety, and health regulations.

  • Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.

  • Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.

  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and procedures manuals.

  • Establishes and maintains licenses and permits as required.

  • Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.

  • May function as a generalist responsible for multiple SH&E facets on a small project/fabrication facility or as a specialist on larger projects.

  • SH&E Specialists are expected to pursue and/or complete SH&E related professional certifications including, but not limited to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Certified Ergonomic Associate (CEA), and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certifications. Initial certifications are individual development technical achievements and can be accomplished by receiving the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering and 2+ years of experience required in shop fabrication, industrial manufacturing or related environment or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.

  • Previous experience assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.

  • Previous experience performing investigations regarding accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate of Completion for Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or willing to achieve within 1st year of employment

  • Certificate of Completion for OSHA 30 or willing to achieve within 90 days of employment

  • Experience in classroom instruction/training

  • Certification in ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Valid US Driver’s License.

  • Ability to travel between fabrication facilities within the local area.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office.

  • Excellent communication skills
