AECOM Senior Transportation Planner in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Transportation Planner for immediate employment in the Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; or Wilmington, NC office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Be a visible leader and trusted advisor to clients by promoting AECOM’s values both internally and externally

  • Managing, developing and collaborating with project teams in the preparation of transportation plans, that may include feasibility studies, corridor studies, long-range transportation plans, small area plans, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents/studies, and other transportation plans.

  • Understanding of and ability to interpret and synthesize state and federal transportation funds, grants, and prioritization.

  • Preparation of briefing materials for key transportation legislation and rulemaking at the Federal and State levels

  • Serve as lead to project team that may include assigning and monitoring work progress, mentoring colleagues, quality assurance reviews of completed work by project team members.

  • Gather data and conduct analysis of data for use in projects and for decision making.

  • Preparation of planning deliverables, including high quality graphics, reports, and web-based products.

  • Conducting meetings and presentations with stakeholders.

  • Work with the local area Business Line Leader and Senior Management on development and execution of significant project pursuits and delivery.

  • Establish relationships with both external and internal clients and customers, including industry associations and other potential consultant team members and contractors

  • Reviewing and compiling existing secondary sources of planning information; providing summaries and briefing documents for leadership.

  • Conducting stakeholder outreach and public involvement efforts.

  • Supporting the implementation of web-based planning processes.

  • Help project teams to integrate the work of planners and engineers into a coherent framework for decision making.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban/City and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, Transportation, Engineering or related field

  • Six (6) years of experience in transportation planning, including understanding of and experience with Federal Transit Administration programs and compliance, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), rural planning, and transit planning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Urban/City and Regional Planning or similar

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification

  • Knowledge and experience with Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Rural Planning Organizations, Comprehensive Transportation Plans, Statewide Plans, and other long-range planning activities in North Carolina

  • Consistent membership in key transit industry professional organizations

  • Understanding of the state and regional transportation planning frameworks and collaboration processes in the State of North Carolina

  • Demonstration of effective leadership skills as a project manager, key task leader, or deputy project manager in a significant transportation planning project or program

  • Familiarity with Federal transportation funding
