Job Description

AECOM's Environmental business group is actively seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Field Scientist / Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our team in Chelmsford, MA or Rocky, Hill, CT.

In this role the person will work with a team of talented environmental professionals and apply their academic knowledge in the environmental field. The successful person will have the ability to work independently on selected smaller projects or tasks, as well as part of a collaborative team on various larger projects. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The position may also include field task management, data analysis, and report writing.

The responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Assisting in jurisdictional wetland delineations in MA, CT and other New England States

  • Habitat/plant community assessment and related natural resources field work

  • Permitting support

  • Utilizing scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems

  • Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure environmental compliance

  • Solving problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments

  • Must be able to effectively work in tandem with program and project managers, clients, and other disciplines within AECOM

  • Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives

  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources

  • Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance

  • Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures

  • Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Prior permitting experience in New England, wetlands delineations, and relevant fieldwork

  • Valid US Driver’s License required, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review and background check

  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, soil science, wetland science or related field

  • Demonstrated experience with GPS and GIS a bonus

  • Certification as a Certified Soil Scientist/Professional Wetland Scientist highly desirable

  • Demonstrated relevant technical writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office a must

Additional Information

  • Some travel, regionally and possibly nationally will be required

  • Must be willing to work across global time zones that may be outside of your own region

  • This is a hybrid work-model requiring 3-days per week in one of the offices located in MA or CT.

  • Sponsorship is not available for this position

  • Relocation support is not available for this position

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $56,000.00 - $75,000.00.
