Job Description
AECOM is looking for an experienced Project Chemist (Chemist V) in our Chelmsford, MA office. The selected candidate will be tasked with providing technical expertise and specialized consulting advice in Environmental Analytical Chemistry. The Chemist's primary role will be to prepare Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), validate analytical data, write data validation reports, and oversee all stages of chemical analytical data.
The Chemist will work with proposal teams to select an analytical methodology, evaluate laboratory proposals, and establish QA/QC parameters. They will work with laboratories to ensure data meets technical requirements and project data quality objectives.
The job responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Laboratory evaluation, selection, and coordination.
Coordinate with field teams before and during sampling events.
Develop data validation procedures for unique analyses not addressed specifically in existing guidance documents.
Peer review of data validation reports and other project documents to ensure accuracy and consistency with project requirements.
Summarize analytical data quality in Data Usability Assessments (DUAs) at the conclusion of the project.
Provide mentorship to entry-level chemists.
Perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule with minimal supervision.
Coordinate with Project/Senior Chemists on a regular basis.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS in Chemistry or related scientific field of study
15+ years working in an environmental analytical laboratory and/or performing data validation
10+ years of experience writing QAPPs
In-depth knowledge of USEPA analytical methods especially SW-846-series methods
Experience interpreting analytical methods and standard operating procedures
Commercial laboratory analytical experience or data validation experience
Experience with validation of PFAS or dioxin/furan data
Experience with operation and use of analytical laboratory equipment (e.g., ICP, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC, and/or GC/MS)
Experience with Department of Defense Quality Systems Manual for Environmental Laboratories Version 5.4
Familiarity with Department of Defense Data Validation Guidelines and Modules
Familiarity with EPA National Functional Guidelines for Data Review
Familiarity with automated data review systems such as EDMS, FUDSChem, or EPA EXES
Familiarity with Earth Soft's EQuIS database program
Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation, sampling, experimentation, quality assurance of chemical measurements, research and documentation
