Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Environmental Engineer specializing in groundwater and subsurface modeling to join our growing team. The successful candidate will bring extensive technical expertise and leadership in groundwater flow, contaminant transport modeling, data analysis, and hydrogeologic investigations. This position offers the opportunity to manage and support complex environmental and water resource projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines.

This position requires a proactive approach to professional development, strong organizational skills, adaptability, and effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. The individual who occupies this role will have experience with surface and groundwater models. The ability to lead design projects on stormwater BMPs and site design is required, along with knowledge of state and local land disturbance permits.

This position demands strong engineering skills, extensive experience with quantitative analysis, technical writing, as well as demonstrated design experiences. Demonstrated experience in proposal development and project management is a plus. The ideal candidate will work productively in a collaborative team environment and be expected to provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff.

The job responsibilities for the position will include but may not be limited to:

  • Develop and execute hydrogeologic studies, including the creation of conceptual site models and numerical models for groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport

  • Apply modeling codes such as MODFLOW, MT3DMS, MODFLOW-USG, and related visualization tools to simulate groundwater and surface water interactions

  • Synthesize complex environmental data, including geological, hydrological, and chemical data, to develop accurate and effective solutions

  • Prepare detailed technical reports, which include data interpretation, modeling results, and remedial design recommendations

  • Manage and coordinate projects to ensure adherence to quality, schedule, and budget

  • Lead proposal development, client presentations, and project meetings

  • Use GIS to create informative visualizations of site data

  • Mentor junior staff and foster technical development within the team

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in New England States or be able to obtain such within 6 months of hire

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in groundwater modeling and hydrogeologic investigations

  • Proficiency in numerical groundwater modeling using tools such as Groundwater Vistas, or GMS

  • Demonstrated experience in contaminant fate and transport modeling

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including data analysis and interpretation

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary project teams

  • Strong project management experience, including budget and schedule management

  • Experience with 2D and 3D visualization software, such as C-Tech EVS, Rockworks, and Leapfrog.

  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory requirements and compliance

  • Knowledge of surface water hydrology, hydraulics, and hydrodynamics, with prior modeling experience with modeling surface water quantity and quality software

  • Experience with PFAS modeling and regulatory guidance

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $130,000.00 - $150,000.00.
