AECOM Civil Engineer (Geotechnical Engineer) in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Chicago, Illinois.

Job Summary:

As part of our Remediation Business Line, you will have the opportunity to work on very challenging projects and collaborate with a wide range of other disciplines. Local travel may be required for various project activities (30-50%).

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with reviewing client service requests, evaluating analysis requirements and preparing cost estimates and proposal submittals

  • Oversee subsurface investigations including hollow stem auger drilling, rotary wash drilling, cone penetrometer test (CPT) soundings, in-situ vane shear testing, soil resistivity testing and pressure meter testing at various sites throughout Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and western Indiana.

  • Review and assign laboratory testing for geotechnical evaluations

  • Oversee inspection of construction activities to monitor progress and assess conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction standards

  • Perform and oversee geotechnical data evaluation including slope stability, seepage and settlement analyses, analysis and design of earth retention systems, liquefaction analysis, and shallow and deep foundation analyses

  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and recommendations

  • Review regulations and standards necessary to conduct technical studies and carry out project design and permitting work

  • Prepare and/or peer review designs, specifications, and construction documents

  • Assemble and document geotechnical data using software that includes: Excel, Word, gINT, and AutoCAD

  • Perform geotechnical analyses with software that includes: GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W and Sigma/W), LPile, PYWALL, SPW911 and GRLWEAP

  • Apply QA/QC requirements to their own work and work of the project team

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering plus a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Civil Engineering

  • 8+ years of geotechnical engineering or related field experience

  • Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan PE license is a plus
