Job Description
Position Overview:
The Construction General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction projects from initial planning to completion. This includes managing on-site operations, ensuring project deadlines are met, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The General Superintendent will coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of construction activities.
Job Profile Summary:
Responsible for the organization, direction, supervision, and coordination of construction activities on a construction project site as delineated in the applicable project execution procedures, site specific safety plan and project execution plan.
Key Responsibilities:
Accountable and overall responsibility for on-site administrative and technical management for a wide range of construction projects.
Leads, directs, and manages the entire direction of construction and related activities within assigned area of responsibility, which may be a single area, multi-area or a multi-discipline construction project. Primary Liaison with client for day-to-day activities and long term operations. Communicates and directs through other superintendents’ changes or modification of jobsite activities within assigned area of operations. Accountable for compliance with design/specifications, completion on schedule, within budget and to quality standards. Primary interface and engagement with Project Executive and manager group to coordinate efforts.
Management:
Oversee all on-site construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, budgets, and timelines.
Develop and implement detailed construction schedules, ensuring timely project progression.
Coordinate with staff superintendents, sub tier contractor superintendents, and other key personnel to align on project objectives and timelines.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and manage site superintendents, foremen, and construction workers.
Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Conduct regular site meetings to discuss progress, address issues, and ensure clear communication.
AECOM Hunt is seeking qualified General Construction Superintendent(s) for future work at our large aviation project in Chicago, IL.
Quality Control:
Ensure that all construction work meets the specified quality standards and adheres to contractual obligations.
Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and rectify any issues promptly.
Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures throughout the construction process.
Safety Management:
Enforce strict adherence to health and safety regulations on all construction sites.
Conduct safety training and meetings, promoting a culture of safety awareness.
Investigate and report any accidents or incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Stakeholder Coordination:
Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are understood and met.
Address and resolve any issues or concerns raised by stakeholders in a timely manner.
Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring reliable and efficient supply chains.
Resource Management:
Allocate labor, materials, and equipment effectively to meet project demands.
Monitor and control project costs, working to prevent budget overruns.
Ensure optimal utilization of resources to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and project documentation.
Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and clients.
Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are obtained and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field and 10 years of experience in construction management and working in a superintendent role with a proven track record of successfully completing large-scale construction projects.
Preferred Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field + 15 years of experience in construction management and working in a superintendent role with a proven track record of successfully completing large-scale aviation projects.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
In-depth knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and safety regulations.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Proficient in project management software and tools.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Previous work experience in the aviation sector.

An AECOM company vehicle will be provided.
Valid Driver’s License to operate an AECOM provided motor vehicle on construction project site(s) to support project tasks assignments and scope of work. For positions with driving responsibilities, Motor Vehicle Records are reviewed as part of AECOM’s background check process to ensure compliance with the Company’s driving standards.
In order to receive a security badge at the client worksite to enable access to secure portions of the facility for which you are being hired to perform services, you may be required to pass the client's security screening process, which will include, but may not be limited to, Homeland Security background check and fingerprinting. Should this be required it will be done after you have commenced employment, and your participation in that process and a pass rating by the client are both conditions of your continued employment by AECOM.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $126,505.00 - $234,034.00.
