AECOM Senior Manager, Real Estate Advisory in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Manager, Real Estate Advisory to be based in Chicago, IL; Arlington, VA; or Los Angeles, CA. The Economics + Advisory Practice has three core disciplines: Sustainable Economics, Urban Policy & Economic Development, and Real Estate Advisory. Our Real Estate Advisory team helps clients pursue real estate development that achieves civic goals. That includes making decisions about market demand, feasibility, and financial requirements as well as social impact, economic development, and equity. We pull ideas into focus and sharpen the boundaries of a preliminary plan or concept for regional and place-based economic development, urban revitalization, real estate, tourism, and culture.

Collaborating with other disciplines, our team develops strategies that respond to the market, attract financing, and enable implementation. We address challenges through clear communication, creative thinking, and structured, impartial analysis. Our global experience and comprehensive, integrated approach help us understand how multiple factors influence value and feasibility. It’s not just about the market, but also project design, public policies and regulations, site conditions, mitigation requirements, development and financing costs, phasing, and implementation challenges.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The Real Estate Advisory practice is looking for a project leader that can support integrated pursuits, identify opportunities, and develop a team of analysts. With an Americas practice, we are seeking candidates that can learn the nuances of new markets and provide subject matter expertise in a specific focus area. Potential focus areas include Higher Education Public Private Partnerships, Joint Development, Urban Regeneration, and Brownfield Redevelopment.

The selected candidate will join AECOM with the primary objective of managing delivery of real estate analysis and transaction support projects. Additional day-to-day tasks will require business development activities and the direction of project teams to ensure top quality and timely work products which satisfy clients’ needs.

The successful candidate will have deep expertise in some of the following topics and familiarity with the remainder: market and financial feasibility analysis; economic development strategies for redevelopment, innovation & upskilling, economic resilience; public-private partnerships and transaction support; housing and community development; public finance, including fiscal impact analyses and infrastructure financing strategies; and the economic justification of resilience and climate adaptation strategies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, Economics, Business, or Planning or equivalent

  • 4+ years of work experience in real estate development, real estate consulting, financial consulting, or in a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years' experience preferred

  • Master's Degree in a related field

  • Experience working closely and collaboratively with many disciplines, including all aspects of the Buildings business, incorporating architecture, urban design, and master planning, as well as our urban infrastructure practice areas including transportation, water, environment, and energy

  • Demonstrated experience navigating and thriving in a multi-disciplinary work environment

  • Experience developing cashflow models from scratch in Excel reflecting complex multi-stakeholder investment structures (public-private partnerships, waterfalls, etc)

  • International experience appreciated

  • Experience presenting and developing content for proposals, interacting with clients, having leadership on discreet technical tasks, presenting professional work at meeting, workshops, and industry conferences

  • Experience with ArcGIS and other spatial analysis tools
