Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Water Main/Force Account Design Engineer to support the Chicago Department of Water’s multi-billion Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This is a key position within the Water Main Design task of the program to support the Design Manager in designing water main replacement candidates and associated lead service line replacement (LSLR) list. This role will also support 3rd permit and design review as part of the Force Account task. Support for the Water Main and Force Account tasks will be approximately at a 50% split.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Prepare water main design plans and follow up with permitting agencies (OUC)
Prepare IDOT Permit applications.
Address review comments from the client.
Plan revises from QC Process and coordinate revisions with CADD Team
Track status for projects in P6.
Create cost estimates for projects.
Address OUC comments that are posted.
Manage special projects like putting together contract and bidding documents, etc.
Can be responsible for one or more moderately complex projects, involving coordination with multiple client stakeholders and multiple agencies.
Works under the supervision of a senior engineer, receives basic instruction on specific assignments, objectives, complex features and possible solutions.
Proficiency or basic knowledge of MicroStation preferred.
Review Existing Facility Protection (EFP) issued by the City of Chicago Office of Underground Coordination (OUC) on behalf of DWM.
Examine/review proposed plans for impacts to Department of Water Management facilities
Enforce Department of Water Management standards to maintain separation requirement of water distribution facilities and proposed utilities
Design and produce construction documents for adjustments of water distribution facilities
Address DWM - Bureau of Engineering Services requests for information on existing facilities and on projects by other agencies
Ability to organize project documentation
Assist with project status tracking in PMIS database/systems
Reviews contractor/consultant design plans for impacts to DWM water distribution facilities.
Develops estimates for Force account construction and inspection services.
Maintains project communication with OUC utility during design review.
Documentation of all communication with external and internal stakeholders
Prepare Letters of Involvement and Work Order documents for distribution Coordinate with cross functional teams on PMO (CIP Water Main Design, Planning, Records, Close-Out, FA Resident Engineers)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental/water resources engineering or construction management or a related discipline and 2+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred
2+ years of water main and/or utility design experience.
Experience in working on municipal water and/or utility projects.
Experience in water quality and LSLR regulations.
EIT, Professional Engineer (PE), or PMP licensure or the ability to attain one within 1 year of an employment.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $85,000.00 - $90,000.00.
