AECOM GIS Specialist III in Cincinnati, Ohio

Job Summary

AECOM’s Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) practice is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented mid-level GIS specialist/Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Cincinnati, Ohio office. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including natural gas and electric utilities. The group primarily works on projects in Ohio and adjacent states as part of AECOM’s regional ecological group. There are opportunities to work on large scale projects or projects further afield than the typical project range if candidate is interested.

The position reports to Cincinnati, OH and teleworking may be considered. The successful applicant will join a network of existing AECOM Siting and IAP specialists across the US. The position will provide mapping and analysis support for our core business in routing and siting, impact assessment, and analysis for high voltage electric transmission lines and substations. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist senior staff in energy infrastructure routing and siting studies, including study segment and route alternative development and analysis and substation siting selection and analysis.

  • Assist senior staff in the preparation of routing and siting applications for submittal to state public utility commissions in support of electric transmission projects.

  • Create maps, databases, and other deliverables on short notice

  • Develop geodatabase schemas and analysis methods needed to support project goals.

  • Assist with data management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, ecology, natural resources, wetlands management, geology, other planning, geography, or an earth science-related field plus 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products. Strong understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) processes and capabilities.

  • Excellent and relevant references.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent and advanced writing skills.

  • GIS Certification certification/degree preferred.

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.

  • Knowledge of relational database systems used in GIS.

  • Extensive knowledge of desktop and web mapping applications including ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (10.x), ArcGIS Pro 2.x, Esri Web App Builder, Story Maps, Collector, and Survey123 within the ArcGIS Online platform.

  • Presentation quality cartographic skills (portfolio examples are welcome).

  • Excellent oral and written communication with ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff/management.

  • 5+years industry experience.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

  • Strong working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Expertise in routing and siting approaches, processes, procedures, and best practices.

  • Experience working with electric utility clients, experience with AEP, Duke, FirstEnergy preferred.
