Job Summary

AECOM is seeking mid-level Fork Lift Mechanics to join our 1 st shift maintenance team at a distribution center in Clayton, OH!

  • Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm; various hours may be required based on critical business demand.

The Fork Lift Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that the facility’s material handling equipment (including electric forklifts, electric carts and floor scrubbing equipment) is repaired and maintained in a timely manner.

Ideal candidates demonstrate experience in maintenance and repair of hydraulic ram equipment , such as aerial lift equipment, sit down floor sweeper/scrubber vehicles, compactors and balers, dock levelers, restraints and overhead doors.

Essential Functions:

  • Remove, repair and replace motors, pumps, drive unit and brake systems.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Change tires using hydraulic press.

  • Use welding equipment.

  • Complete daily work logs with detailed information on a timely basis.

  • Ensure that work orders and monthly PM’s are completed as required.

  • Maintain professional and courteous customer relations including, client, vendor, and internal team.

  • Actively participate in safety meetings. Maintain safety work practices as define by AECOM

  • Communicate and advise MHE related concerns to fellow employees and management.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of fork lifts, material handling equipment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Requires ability to move heavy objects, such as motors, etc. (may be more than 50 pounds).

  • Requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods and frequent bending, twisting, reaching and turning

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of various hand tools (i.e. utility knife, adjustable wrench, pliers, screwdriver, etc.).

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Must wear steel-toed safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat and gloves as well as any other required PPE.

  • Keyboard skills and visual activity associated with the use of keyboards and terminals.

  • Must be able to respond to emergency alarms.

  • Requires the ability to operate forklifts, power and hand material moving equipment.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one‑on‑one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Coping with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree or equivalent trade school program in a related skilled trade.

  2. Experience in electric forklift repair and maintenance.

  3. Excellent working knowledge of hand and power tools.

  4. Ability to perform all types of repairs and preventive maintenance on various lifts and material handling equipment, compactors, sit down floor cleaning equipment, aerial lifts, dock plates, restraints and overhead doors.

  5. Ability to safely and effectively use welding equipment and diagnostic/calibration equipment.

  6. Ability to work overtime, holidays or weekends when needed.

  7. Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
