At AECOM, we’re delivering a better world.

Job Description

Calling all community-focused water engineering professionals!

Since the historic enactment of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unlocked unparalleled funding for critical wastewater and drinking water projects.

AECOM, a key Water Technical Assistance provider for EPA and fellow private sector entities is committed to assisting in bringing these initiatives to meet communities where they are.

We seek dedicated technical and professional team members who share our passion for community empowerment and sustainable development across the United States in the drinking water and wastewater sectors.

Our ideal candidates will possess expertise in conducting community water infrastructure assessments, crafting pre-design estimation packages for facility enhancements, compiling lead service line inventories, and identifying emerging contaminants such as PFAS. As projects are slated to span the entirety of the US, anticipate a blend of remote work and travel.

We welcome individuals with proven experience in engaging with underserved communities, Tribal Nations, and those adept at navigating complex systems within larger geographic regions.

This role offers a unique opportunity to directly engage with diverse communities, steering their sustainable growth and future prosperity.

If this resonates with you and aligns with your career aspirations, we invite you to explore further by applying or contacting us through the links below. Join us in making a tangible difference in communities nationwide.

These roles are primarily remote and would require occasional overnight travel, varying from a few days to a few weeks in communities involved in the program.

About the Program:

EPA’s free Water Technical Assistance (WaterTA) supports communities to identify water challenges; develop plans; build technical, managerial, and financial capacity; and developing application materials to access water infrastructure funding. EPA collaborates with states, Tribes, territories, community partners, and other key stakeholders to implement WaterTA efforts.

The result: more communities with applications for federal funding and quality water.

AECOM, an active WaterTA provider, provides technical assistance to underserved communities through this program. Communities in all 50 states and territories are eligible to request technical assistance. The ideal candidate will be able to support municipal utilities and government agencies in the areas of drinking water and water quality, specifically topics related to environmental justice, public health, climate change, water utility sustainability, and water infrastructure financing.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide engineering support on a diverse range of drinking water/wastewater and climate resiliency projects for federal, state, and municipal clients.

  • Be willing to travel to engage with disadvantaged communities, providing technical support across the entirety of the water infrastructure project lifecycle (assessments, planning, design, funding).

  • Research and develop hazard mitigation policy and design solutions for local, state, and federal clients, specifically as it pertains to water infrastructure and systems.

  • Write technical reports and develop presentations for non-technical and technical audiences.

  • Developed technical documents required to access federal funding, including but not limited to Preliminary Engineering Reports.

  • Assist with the identification and description of cost-effective, technically feasible, and environmentally sound resilience actions.

  • Participating in client development and assisting with proposals and marketing materials as needed.

  • Research drinking water regulations, water sector climate adaptation options, water utility financing, or topics to support water infrastructure resilience.

  • Have a professional engineering license and the ability to acquire licenses in multiple states.
