Job Description

AECOM has a position available fora Lead Process Piping Engineer to oversee our talented team of piping designers within the Energy practice Engineering Center of Excellence. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

Our team provides a wide range of mechanical engineering services across markets sectors including oil and gas – upstream, midstream and downstream refining, industrial processes (chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage), mining/bulk material handling and future and renewable fuels (such as hydrogen, renewable natural gas, biogas, carbon capture).

We are looking for an enthusiastic up and coming leader to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our deep existing client base. Qualified candidates will have a with a technical diverse background in process piping/mechanical engineering coupled with experience supervising design teams and leading tasks on projects.

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Team supervision and leadership:

  • Support Director of Engineering in advancing the culture of technical excellence and accountability

  • Supervise and lead a team of piping designers through their individual and team technical development for greater utility to the organization and overall career satisfaction

  • Lead improvements project piping efficiencies by creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards/templates and researching and recommending software packages/plug-ins

  • Provide input to management on project resourcing and staff forecasting needs

  • Develop task and deliverable list with associated hours estimate and schedule to support business development activities

  • Actively support recruiting efforts

  • Support projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning

  • Project participation:

  • Collaborate with multi-discipline technical leads to integrate piping across the full spectrum of projects and client solutions either as engineer or designer

  • Function as technical piping engineering lead on projects

  • Perform engineering calculations to support and direct construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings)

  • Generate piping specifications

  • Provide quality control reviews of work developed by others

  • Monitor your teams project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects

  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of the design work

  • Participate in and present engineering and design work at client meetings including those requiring occasional travel

Level specific responsibilities:

  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise

  • Approves and signs off on work

  • Provides technical expertise and able to present complex technical solutions to clients

  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.

  • Participates in development of technical proposals.

  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS (Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering preferred) from ABET accredited university

  • 8+ years of relevant process piping engineering and design experience

  • High level design and CAD skills and technical competency in the field of mechanical and/or piping engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or CadWorx

  • EIT Certification

  • Able to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current professional engineering license (PE) preferred

  • Physical design experience for industrial facilities

  • Highly Proficient in AutoCAD 3D design software (especially Plant 3D)

  • Highly Proficient with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), AspenTech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applications

  • Adaptability and fervent curiosity in learning new software and applications

  • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks)

  • Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360

  • Experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development

  • Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. API, ASME)

  • Interest in developing talented technical teams

  • Able to lead engineering tasks with strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.

  • Field construction and commissioning experience
