AECOM Senior Water Resource Engineer/ Business Development in Columbus, Ohio

Job Summary

AECOM has an immediate need for a Senior Water Resource Engineer with Business Development experience. The work location is flexible in that the employee will be working primarily in the Akron, Cleveland, or Columbus areas and work from one of AECOM’s offices or the candidate would be allowed to work remotely from their Ohio based residence.

DCSA Water

With more than 3,200 Water professionals in all major markets throughout the United States and Canada, AECOM’s Water business line leverages nearly a century of local, national, and international project experience to provide today’s municipalities, industries, and governments with cost-effective solutions to their Water challenges. We deliver our services—from environmental planning studies to detailed design, construction management, and operations and maintenance—to a wide range of public and private sector clients. Our public sector work encompasses everything from small rural communities, to large urban centers, to agencies with regional responsibilities. Our private sector work includes assignments for multiple commercial/industrial sectors, including oil and gas, chemicals, power, food and beverage, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.

The responsibilities of this role are two-fold and include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Senior Water Resource Engineer (70%)

  • Support AECOM’s Midwest Water Resources Team by managing/leading technical tasks and some project management.

  • Hydrology/hydraulic analysis, and civil design for water resource and transportation projects.

  • Stormwater Management Plans and green infrastructure design.

  • Dam removal/modifications and river restoration projects to include design, permitting, modeling, dam break analysis.

  • Floodplain mapping and assessments.

  • Bridge and culvert hydraulics and design, run-off quantity and quality estimation, open channel and closed conduit flow, one and two-dimensional flow analysis, surface flow, and dam design and operation.

  • Successfully lead (Project Manage) water resources projects.

  • Be an active member of the Team through mentoring junior engineers, participating in team functions, and technical reviews.

  • Develop construction plans and specifications for related projects.

Business Development (30%)

  • Develop opportunity targets based on market conditions and client acquisition strategies.

  • Lead capture plans for pursuits and assist with teaming and negotiating.

  • Lead the development of scope, fee, schedule, and proposal preparation.

  • Lead business development in the Ohio Region with support from the AECOM business development team.

  • Leverage existing AECOM project efforts to foster additional business within Ohio.

  • Client networking.

  • Track RFPs and identify work within the Ohio Region.

  • Be actively involved in client relations, strategy development, positioning, and capture management.

  • Demonstrate a high level of motivation and entrepreneurial ability in supporting pursuits and closing of deals in the Ohio Region.

  • Builds on strong relationships and interacts regularly with existing and new clients, teaming partners, industry groups, and stakeholders linked to the practice and business line profitable growth and performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Water Resources

  • 6+ years of relevant experience to include at least one or more of the following:

  • Hydrology/hydraulic analysis, and civil design for water resource and transportation projects.

  • Dam removal/modifications and river restoration projects

  • Regional travel required, approximately 10% of time per year

  • Sponsorship for this position is not available

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Engineering preferred

  • Experience with HEC-RAS is highly preferred

  • PE with ability to obtain Ohio license within 6 months is highly desired

  • Experience with the following programs preferred: HEC-HMS, SWMM, AutoCAD

  • 2+ years’ experience leading pursuits

  • Interest in business development and sales
