Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an entry level Environmental Scientist or Ecologist for employment in the Conshohocken, PA office. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including natural gas, electric utilities, and renewables. AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting group manages a wide variety of projects including impact assessments, environmental field assessments (i.e. wetland delineations, species surveys, etc.), environmental regulatory permitting, utility siting and licensing, environmental inspection, and many others. The group primarily works on projects in the eastern, mid-Atlantic region of the United States (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, and West Virginia). There are opportunities to work on large-scale projects or projects further afield than the typical project range if the candidate is interested.

The position reports to Conshohocken, PA office and teleworking may be considered. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports field work for wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, environmental inspections, or site walkdowns.

  • Supports and prepares permit applications and impact assessments for federal, state and local permits application preparation and coordination with the reviewing agencies.

  • Coordinating with internal teams such as cultural resources, biologists, ecologists, GIS, and other technical leads, civil engineers, and other project support teams.

  • Serving as technical support for biological evaluations/assessments.

  • Assist with stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments and other surveys by supporting senior staff.

  • Ability to work with a team or independently.

  • Ability to manage schedules for multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Periodically, work may require extended hours, remotely, night work, and/or overnight travel.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental. Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.

  • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • The position may require fieldwork, and the candidate must be able to travel (including overnight).

  • Good driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.

  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of consulting experience within the utilities industry.

  • 1+ years of permitting application preparation or regulatory review (NPDES stormwater, Section 401/404, or other federal, state, or local permits), supporting data collection and review, and preparation of scientific documents including wetland delineations stream assessments, and other technical reports.

  • Technical writing experience specifically about authoring siting studies, and/or FERC resource reports, and/or NEPA analysis preferred.

  • Experience in multiple states within the mid-Atlantic and eastern United States, including riparian buffer zones, coastal zones, tidal areas, and other east coast ecosystems.

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products or AutoCAD.

  • GIS Certification certification/degree preferred.

  • Experience working with electric utility, natural gas, and/or renewable energy clients

  • Experience delivering high-quality technical documentation and permit applications.

  • Driver’s license with trailer certification; boat transportation/maintenance experience.

  • Safety training (i.e. OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hours)

  • High degree of self-motivation.

  • Excellent and relevant references and technical writing sample.
