Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented mid to senior level siting specialist for immediate employment in either the Mechanicsburg or Conshohocken, Pennsylvania offices. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including natural gas, electric utilities, solar, offshore wind, and others. AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting group conducts a wide variety of projects including impact assessments, environmental field assessments (i.e. wetland delineations, species surveys, etc.), environmental regulatory permitting, utility siting and licensing, environmental planning, and many others. The group primarily works on projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, West Virginia and other eastern states. There are opportunities to work on large-scale projects or projects in other geographic areas, if interested.

The position reports to the Environmental Manager (Conshohocken) but the candidate may be located in the Mechanicsburg or Conshohocken office. Teleworking may be considered based on AECOM’s Freedom to Grow opportunities. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Have a working knowledge of siting procedures, public utility commission filings, and east coast regulations related to new and rebuilt utility infrastructure filings.

  • Support the technical writing, data collection and metrics assessment for segment and route assessments.

  • Coordinate associated inputs, testimony, and data request responses by technical disciplines.

  • Work with the project team to prepare filings for submission to the applicable utility commission.

  • Prepare for, plan, and attend public meetings or support virtual public meetings online content development.

  • Work with the AECOM team to prepare siting reports, environmental and socio-economic and other assessments.

  • Attend field walkdowns to review study areas, route alignments and project details.

  • Coordinating with internal teams such as cultural resources, ecologist, GIS, and other technical experts.

  • Ability to work as a team lead or independently.

  • Assisting Senior Staff with business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients.

  • Periodically, work requires extended hours, remotely, night work, and/or overnight travel.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental. Science, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Studies, Geography/Regional Planning, or related field.

  • 4 + years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • The position requires occasional fieldwork, and the candidate must be able to travel (including overnight).

  • Good driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.

  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of siting experience, technical writing, data review, and preparation of public utility filing documents including public utility commission applications, public outreach plans, supporting mapping and other reports such as environmental or other site assessments.

  • Technical writing experience specifically about authoring siting studies, and/or FERC resource reports, and/or NEPA analysis preferred.

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products. Strong understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) processes and capabilities. GIS Certification certification/degree preferred.

  • Experience working with electric utility, natural gas, and/or renewable energy clients

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Experience delivering high-quality technical documentation and permit applications.

  • Safety training (i.e. CPR, OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hours)

  • High degree of self-motivation.

  • Ability to lead a field and/or technical team.

  • Excellent and relevant references.
