AECOM Civil Engineer in Denver, Colorado

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative and highly motivated mid-Level Civil Engineer for employment in our Denver, Colorado office to support our mining projects. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful, and be decisive. The position will involve working on projects for our mining clients to conduct hydrologic & hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design. Candidates can expect a diverse set of project specific challenges focused on stormwater control, seepage collection, access road design, heavy civil grading. There will also be opportunities to work with staff experienced in watershed analyses, stream restoration, reservoir/pond design, erosion control, civil design and more.

With more than 3,200 Water professionals in all major markets throughout the United States and Canada, AECOM’s Water business line leverages nearly a century of local, national and international project experience to provide today’s municipalities, industries and governments with cost-effective solutions to their Water challenges. We deliver our services—from environmental planning studies to detailed design, construction management, and operations and maintenance—to a wide range of public and private sector clients. Our public sector work encompasses everything from small rural communities, to large urban centers, to agencies with regional responsibilities. Our private sector work includes assignments for multiple commercial/industrial sectors, including oil and gas, chemicals, power, food and beverage, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

  • Build analytic and design skills by performing assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and

understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Conduct engineering design/analysis using spreadsheets and programming tools

  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, construction specifications, and final working drawings using programs such as ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Work with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings including grading, drainage and roadway plans, profiles, details, and sections.

  • Use computer software such as HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS as a tool for solving basic engineering problems

  • Perform frequency storm and probable maximum precipitation hydrologic analyses

  • Conduct hydraulic analyses and design of channels, culverts, bridges, flow measurement, and flood mapping

  • Prepare reservoir and pond designs including geosynthetic lining, leak detection/collection systems, breach analysis, outlet works, and spillways

  • Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control

  • Coordinate with OSE, EPA, and other agencies for permit preparation

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule

  • Scope/estimate complex civil & hydraulics projects

  • Track and manage task budgets and schedules

  • Write reports and prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education Minimum Requirements

  • PE license or the ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire

  • Working knowledge in HEC-RAS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in water resources, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, or other related field required

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis

  • Experience using and designing utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Strong technical progression within civil engineering and design

  • Must have the ability to interface with clients and enjoy being hands on technically in the project.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards - local experience preferred

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The midpoint of the salary range is $97,153.12. annually.
