Job Summary

We are currently accepting applications for the position of ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SAFETY.

This position will assist the AECOM Director of Safety's execution of the aviation and ground safety program requirements of the Fort Rucker Rotary Wing Flight Training Contract.

Essential responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Performs duties as aviation and ground safety manager in support of a contract flight training division.

  • Conducts monthly and "as directed" safety meetings.

  • Performs safety inspections within the supported division and other areas as needed.

  • Monitors the day-to-day operations of the supported division for hazard detection.

  • This position supports Academics and Headquarters/Non-Flight personnel safety matters.

  • Advises supported flight training division management on all safety, hazard, and risk management matters.

  • Functions as the safety subject matter expert for all employees in the supported division.

  • Interfaces with Government officials on diverse issues and problems and works to resolve operational problems and issues.

  • Reports to the Director of Safety.

  • Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Investigates accidents and submits accident reports.

  • Records, maintains, provides and utilizes statistics.

  • Must be available to work a schedule that may include working at night in support of NVG training.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position an applicant must meet all of the following qualifications and skill requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor degree in Education, Aviation, Management or Business applicable to the Position.

  • Have possessed FAA commercial pilot and flight instructor certificate, or be a graduate of any DOD instructor pilot course.

  • Must have a minimum of 1500 hours experience in rotary wing aircraft with 500 hours experience as a flight instructor.

  • Be a graduate of any DOD course in aircraft accident prevention and investigation, and must have knowledge of US Army, OSHA and FAA safety policies.

  • Have experience in managing aviation accident/mishap prevention programs.

  • Be able to speak and write English effectively.

  • Be able to make presentations and communicate effectively with large and small, diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrate skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include: creating MS Word and Excel documents, creating PowerPoint presentations, using MS Publisher and MS Access database.

  • Be able to establish effective, cooperative, professional working relationships with Company and customer management.

  • Be a self-starter who can establish and maintain an effective aviation and ground safety program with minimal supervision.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain appropriate level of security clearance.

  • Possess a valid Alabama Driver's License or be able to obtain one prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Highly desirable additional skills and experience:

  • Instructor pilot rating in UH-72 and TH-67 or variant helicopters.

  • Recent safety management or oversight experience with Fort Rucker Flight Training.

  • Have a working knowledge of OSHA regulations/standards.
