Participate in field assignments that will include soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing; geotechnical instrumentation design and construction; and inspection of the construction of geotechnical features like retaining walls, foundations, dams, levees, floodwalls, and tunnels.
Lead a geotechnical task on a large project or be a discipline lead on a small project.
Have the opportunity to travel to and work in locations both within the USA and around the world.
Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers.
Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, flood risk reduction structures, embankments and cut slopes, and both soft and hard rock tunnels.
Develop geotechnical design parameters based on laboratory data results.
Prepare and review Geotechnical Reports, Alternative Analysis Reports, etc.
Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.
Review design plans and specifications and for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.
Complete Independent Technical Reviews within your area of expertise.
Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposals.
BA/BS + 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Professional Engineering License required, as well as the ability to obtain PE license in 6 months in both Texas and Louisiana.
Must have strong technical progression within geotechnical engineering
Proficient in GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD
Expertise with and ability to make informed decisions regarding drilling, field investigations, laboratory testing, advanced material characterization, seepage analysis, slope stability analysis, settlement, and construction of dams, levees, channel improvements, and other heavy earthwork projects.
Expertise in various construction techniques and phasing to help develop unique, cost effective solutions for our clients.
Ability to travel 10% or more, as needed
Ability to support marketing effort in pursuing alternative delivery work with a focus on geotechnical engineering
A positive attitude that motivates the project team.
Ability to work on fast paced complex projects
Ability to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time
Willing to work overtime if needed to complete a task to meet the client’s schedule or request
Note that our team mostly works remotely, so you must have very strong communication skills and the ability to work with a team across the nation and the world. Benefits of this method of work includes flexible hours and flexibility to work from home or the office.
Understanding of expansive soils in Texas and/or soft soils in Louisiana and their impacts to design is a plus.
Experience in construction inspection
Graduated from ABET accredited university with Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or in progress.
Prior experience = 10-20 years of practical applied knowledge in the industry
