Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineering Summer 2025 Intern to be based in Germantown, MD .

This position is expected to begin in May 2025.

We are looking for an enthusiastic engineering student to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice in our Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA offices as a Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineering Summer 2025 Intern . We are seeking a candidate who has a strong interest in Geotechnical Engineering and Dams . This position will support a variety Dam Engineering projects across the East region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and will have access to exciting career opportunities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support for projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.

  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis/interest in Geotechnical Engineering with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.

  • Candidates must have completed three years of study in their program.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering with an emphasis/interest in Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Strong desire to learn and a professional drive.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of MS Office Programs. Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.

  • A strong sense of commitment and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to travel for project work part-time as needed.

  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Familiarity/capability in relevant Geotechnical Engineering software programs such as Geostudio and gINT.

  • Knowledge of dam engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.

  • Experience in AutoCAD.

  • This role will involve travel to project sites around Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA and surrounding area. Knowledge and experience navigating Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA and surrounding area is a plus.

Additional Information

  • Travel is required for this position.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA . The selected candidate must be available to work in Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA on a scheduled basis.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $24.77/hour - $34.00/hour.
