Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Geotechnical Engineering Intern to support geotechnical, civil infrastructure, and mine tailings projects as part of the Water Resources group in Germantown, Maryland. The position will involve working on geotechnical projects to conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses.

This position is expected to begin in May or June 2024

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform geotechnical tasks and working closely with other disciplines to meet the project needs, under the supervision of senior engineers.

  • Perform site visits, oversee subsurface investigation, prepare gINT logs.

  • Adhere to AECOM safety culture and maintain a safe work environment.

  • Assign and review data from geotechnical laboratory testing.

  • Perform design calculations.

  • Assist the geophysics group in data collection during geophysical surveys.

  • Assist in preparing engineering reports and memoranda.

  • Perform construction oversight.

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.

  • Internships are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.

  • Candidates must have completed 1 year of study in their program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience using CAD software, MathCAD, gINT and geotechnical software.

  • Geotechnical Engineering coursework.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $19.00/hour - $25.00/Hour.
