Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Summer 2025 Structural Dam Safety Intern to be based in Germantown, MD .

AECOM is seeking an enthusiastic engineering student to join the East Region Dams Team as Summer 2025 Structural Dam Safety Intern . This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career opportunities.

This position is expected to begin in May 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support for projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.

  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering and must have completed at least three years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required for this role.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites. Must possess a valid driver’s license. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A GPA of 3.0 of higher.

  • Familiarity/capability in relevant engineering software programs such as Mathcad, STADD Pro and Ansys.

  • Knowledge of dams engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.

  • Experience in AutoCAD.

  • A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven environment.

  • Knowledge of MS Office Programs. Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.

  • Travel is required for this position.

  • This role will involve travel to project sites around Germantown, MD and surrounding area. Knowledge and experience navigating Germantown, MD and surrounding area a plus.

  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Germantown, MD . The selected candidate must be available to work in Germantown, MD on a scheduled basis.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $24.77/hour - $34.00/hour.
