Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Geologist II to support soil and groundwater investigations and remediation projects in accordance with Comprehensive Environmental Response, compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, various NCDEQ Division of Waste Management Programs and other regulatory programs.
The selected candidate will provide project or task management and supervision of complex field tasks, including site investigations, drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sample collection, and related work. The candidate will also provide office support for data management, report preparation, and maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.
AECOM ’s Remediation, Restoration and Redevelopment Practice delivers innovative and often complex solutions to meet our clients’ objectives. Because we address many different impacted sites – from munitions to PFAS to algae blooms and beyond – every project in our global practice is different.
The job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to:
Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures; including multi-media sampling (groundwater, soil, sediment)
Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.
Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists, primarily involving site assessments, remedial investigations, and corrective action
Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge
Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis
Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance - primarily North Carolina DEQ, Virginia DEQ, South Carolina DES, and US EPA
Works under general supervision
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS in Geology, Environmental Science or related field of study + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Valid US Driver’s License and must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.
Ability to travel up to 25% for fieldwork. Ability to travel out-of-State to complete field work. Position to require overnight travel.
As a condition of employment, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain medical clearance for driving and wearing a respirator
As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a drug screening.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in Geology, Environmental Science or related field of study
3+ years of experience in soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well drilling, vapor intrusion evaluation, and construction management.
Technical skills including Database, GIS, CAD, visualization software skills are preferred
OSHA 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training
Experience in the collection and evaluation of environmental data in field and office settings.
Strong scheduling, team building, and budget management skills
PG, PE, or license-track
Proficient computer skills: Word, Excel, ArcGIS, EQuIS are desirable.
Experienced with VOCs, metals, and petroleum contamination

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $65,000.00 - $75,000.00.
