Job Description
AECOM Honolulu office is actively seeking a mid-level environmental chemist for employment to be a task leader for a variety of military environmental projects (i.e., Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Actions) within the Federal sector. The successful candidate will have at a minimum a BS in chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geology with a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects.
The candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work may be required including the oversight of subcontractors
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.
Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.
Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.
Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.
Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.
Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Works under general supervision.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BA or BS in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or other related science.
Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental analytical chemistry, such as environmental chemistry laboratory, data validation, or environmental consulting.
Valid driver’s license.
US Citizen, for access to DoD project sites
Ability to successfully obtain a DBIDs pass to gain access to any required federal military installation site locations
Ability to travel at least 30% of the time
Must successfully pass preemployment background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related discipline.
4+ years of experience within the consulting industry.
Experienced with environmental science principles, including site assessment and characterization, remediation, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, etc.
Possess current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and Supervisor certifications and be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination
Effective oral and written communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
Experience using ArcGIS and generating maps and report figures.
Excellent skills in written and spoken communication (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time management.
Field work will be required, including oversight of subcontractors.
Ability to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
