AECOM Project Geotechnical Engineer in Houston, Texas
The Water Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to be located in one of the Texas offices, including Dallas, Houston, or Austin, or in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA. Other locations within Texas and Louisiana will be considered based on person’s specific experience and type of work available in the area.
The Water team brings together the skills of project managers, civil engineers, H&H engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental and planning specialists to provide integrated, sustainable and cost-effective solutions. Projects include flood risk reduction systems, dams, levees, floodwalls and floodgates, water supply, tunnels/trenchless technology, roads water/wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipe networks, sewerage, and outfalls.
You will work alongside our project managers throughout the project design and delivery cycle, making technical decisions in various design stages of water and wastewater utility projects to include carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications. You may be asked to mentor junior staff which will call for excellent leadership and communication skills.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Participate in field assignments that will include soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing; geotechnical instrumentation design and construction; and inspection of the construction of geotechnical features like retaining walls, foundations, dams, levees, floodwalls, and tunnels.
Have the opportunity to travel to and work in locations both within the USA and around the world.
Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers.
Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, flood risk reduction structures, embankments and cut slopes, and both soft and hard rock tunnels.
Develop geotechnical design parameters based on laboratory data results.
Prepare and review Geotechnical Reports, Alternative Analysis Reports, etc.
Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.
Review design plans and specifications and for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.
Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposals.
- Bachelor's' Degree plus 4 years relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Graduated from ABET accredited university with Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or in progress.
Prior experience = 5+ years of practical applied knowledge in the industry
Professional Engineering License required, as well as the ability to obtain PE license in 6 months in both Texas and Louisiana.
Must have strong technical progression within geotechnical engineering
Proficient in GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD
Experience with and ability to make informed decisions regarding drilling, field investigations, laboratory testing, advanced material characterization, seepage analysis, slope stability analysis, settlement, and construction of dams, levees, channel improvements, and other heavy earthwork projects.
Experience in various construction techniques and phasing to help develop unique, cost effective solutions for our clients.
Ability to travel 10% or more, as needed
Ability to support marketing effort in pursuing alternative delivery work with a focus on geotechnical engineering

Ability to work on fast paced complex projects
Ability to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time
Willing to work overtime if needed to complete a task to meet the client’s schedule or request

Understanding of expansive soils in Texas and/or soft soils in Louisiana and their impacts to design is a plus
