Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Field Technician to be based in our Hunt Valley, MD office. The RF Field Technician will be responsible for data collection of various networks using RF measurement equipment and software tools. The candidate will be responsible testing and troubleshooting of system components including performing cable testing using cable analyzer equipment, Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing using PIM test equipment, and analyzing collected data to provide recommendations. The candidate will perform physical inspection systems including active and passive components such as radio transmitters, bi-directional amplifiers, splitters, connectors, coaxial cable, fiber cable, antennas, etc.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform RF data collection using a scanner and spectrum analyzer

  • Perform Insertion Loss (IL) test, according to the RF Cable Acceptance Test Procedure

  • Perform Distance to Fault (DTF) test, according to the RF Cable Acceptance Test Procedure

  • Perform PIM test, according to PIM Test Procedure

  • Test fiber cable using fiber test equipment according to the Fiber Test Procedure

  • Analyze test data and provide recommendations to resolve issues

  • Commission small to medium-scale DAS networks

  • Troubleshoot and repair RF systems in consultation with the Engineering team

  • Inspect and analyze systems for any physical issues

  • Perform site walks at various client locations to support system design

  • Assist the Engineering Team with the analysis of existing systems and design for new systems

  • Design small to medium-scale systems using software such as iBwave

  • Will assist the radio design team in testing, analyzing, and servicing LMR and mobile phone networks

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus four (4) years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • A valid Driver’s License is required to regularly visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices when public transportation is not available. (As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review)

  • U.S. Citizenship experience is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Five (5) years of experience in the design of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and/or mobile phone (e.g., Distributed Antenna Systems or “DAS”) networks

  • Experienced in installation, troubleshooting, servicing, data collection, and RF emission testing of outdoor and contained (e.g., in-building, tunnel, or similar) LMR or mobile phone networks

  • Three (3) years of experience in RF cable and communication systems

  • Experience in using data collection tools and software

  • Experience in testing, installing, and integration of RF systems

  • Experience in coaxial and fiber cable testing

  • Experience in RF engineering analysis tools

  • Detail and safety-oriented

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient using computer and MS Office

  • Ability to climb fixed ladders that equal or exceed 24 ft and sometimes work in dusty spaces

  • Professional experience utilizing the following industry standard tools:

  • Data collection tools such as PCTel scanner, JDSU or TEMs

  • Cable Testers such as Anritsu S332E or equivalent

  • Fiber Testers such as Fluke, OTR

  • PIM Testers such as Kaelus, Anritsu

  • Signal Generators

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $90,000.00 - $105,000.00.
